What this means for the next few weeks
Most of the large promotions at these four stores this fall have lasted about a week. When a price you have been waiting for shows up, the safest plan is to buy within a few days.
Discounts also come around often. Gap’s CashSoft sweaters and Athleta’s Pinnacle Trouser and Venice Wide Leg have each been on sale more than once this fall, so full-price pieces at Athleta, Old Navy and Gap are worth waiting on for a week or two.
J.Crew is the one store where waiting carries some risk this month. Its new tall wool coats are selling through at full price, so if you want one, buy it while your size is still there.
