Last week we described Athleta’s 30% off promotion as a rotation: the same discount moving onto a different set of leggings each week while the previous round went back to full price. We told you that if your style had just lost its discount, a similar one would probably show up on something else within a week or two.
The promotion widened instead of moving. Athleta’s tall sale went from about 40% of the store to almost 70%, which is the highest we have seen from this store, and a second discount rate appeared alongside the familiar 30%.
Our Athleta tall fit guide covers how their tall sizing runs before you commit.
There are two promo rates now, and the higher one is new
Athleta has run a single flat 30% for the last three weeks. This week a 40% rate appeared next to it.
| Discount | Share of the tall sale |
|---|---|
| 30% off | 60% |
| 40% off | 20% |
| Everything else | 20% |
The 40% rate is where the fall collection went, and that is the part worth acting on.
The fall collection is 40% off, six days after being full price
Skyline Zip Pant · $89 (was $149), 40% off, tall 0 to 16, Black, Pearl or Nocturnal
Full price last week. Every numeric size from 0 to 16 is still available in all three colors.
Skyline High Rise Barrel Leg Pant · $83 (was $139), 40% off, tall 0 to 16, Savanna or Jungle, 3,429 reviews at 4.7

Savanna and Jungle were both $139 at full price six days ago. Navy, Black and Bright White came down to the same $83, so five colorways now share one price with the complete size run.
The one to actually buy is still Slate at $60, almost 60% off, unchanged for a fifth straight week with all nine sizes. That is standing clearance rather than promotional pricing, which is why it has held through three weeks of changing promos while everything around it moved.
Endless High Rise Pant · $65 (was $109), 40% off, tall 0 to 16, seven colors, 16,194 reviews at 4.6
Savanna, Nocturnal and Navy went from full price straight to 40% off. Ash, Mortar Mushroom, Bright White and Black were at 30% and got deeper. Six of the seven carry the complete 0 to 16 run. This is the most-reviewed tall bottom at any of the four stores.
Venice High Rise Wide Leg Pant · $77 (was $129), 40% off, tall XS to XL, Mystic, 4,943 reviews at 4.7
Worth flagging because the Venice line is what reverted to full price last week. Seven colors are discounted again six days later, Mystic at 40% and the rest at 30%, which is the clearest sign that this stopped being a rotation.
Last week’s pick improved
Elation Ultra High Rise 7/8 Legging · $53 (was $89), 40% off, tall XS to XL, 12,688 reviews at 4.7
We named this at $62 last week and said Athleta’s habit of changing the promo every week meant it probably would not last. It lasted, and it dropped another 10 points to $53. Mystic, Garden and Bright White are all at the new price.
One colorway went the other way, with Ash returning to $89. Same legging, same page, different colors on different sides of the promotion, so read the color along with the price.
These are cut to end above the ankle by design. For a legging that reaches the ankle on a tall frame, the full-length Elation Ultra High Rise Legging in Morning Glory is $53 at the same 40% off.
The outerwear joined in
Jackets went from a little over half the category on sale to about 85%, and the pieces that launched at full price with the fall drop are discounted for the first time.
Rainout Ridge Long Trench · $139 (was $199), 30% off, tall S to XL, Jungle or Black, 715 reviews at 4.7
Back in stock this week after being unavailable last week, and discounted on return.
Daymaker Jacket · $111 (was $159), 30% off, tall S to XL, Flax, Black or Bone
Allure Long Jacket · $125 (was $179), 30% off, tall S to XL, Nocturnal or Black
Both were full price six days ago and both still carry the complete tall run.
Pinnacle High Rise Trouser · $65 (was $129), 50% off, tall 2 to 16, Dove, 2,686 reviews at 4.7
Dove is unchanged and remains the cheapest Pinnacle. Savanna, Bone and Black came back down to $90 at 30% off with full runs after going back to full price last week.
Where the markdown landed
| Category | Share on sale | Typical discount |
|---|---|---|
| Jackets | 85% | 30% off |
| Tops | 65% | 30% off |
| Bottoms | 60% | 30% off |
| Dresses | 55% | 30% off |
Tops moved the furthest, from almost nothing on sale to about two thirds of the category. Bottoms more than doubled. Nothing new arrived this week, so all of that came from repricing stock Athleta already had.
What went back to full price
A small number of styles reverted, scattered across lines rather than concentrated in one family the way they were last week:
| Style | Aug 27 | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Elation Ultra High Rise 7/8 Legging, Ash | $62 | $89 |
| Endless High Rise Pant, Woodland | $76 | $109 |
| Pinnacle High Rise Trouser, Navy | $90 | $129 |
The Coaster Luxe Recover Sweatshirt held at $55 in Truffle, Navy and Fog Grey Heather. That is the sweatshirt that went on sale, off sale, and back on again over three weeks. It has now held one price for two of them.
The Jetset Bomber is still $169 in all four colors, unchanged for three weeks, and it is the one significant piece the widening promotion left alone.
The TLDR summary
This is the widest and deepest Athleta’s tall sale has been. If you have been waiting on a fall piece, this is the week, and the flat 30% and 40% rates are the part with an expiry date attached.
The pattern worth carrying forward is the one Slate has demonstrated for five weeks. The odd prices, $60 and $65, are standing clearance and they survive each week’s promo. The round percentages come and go. When both are available on the same style, the odd price is the one likely to still be there next month. 🏃
