Athleta spent this week doing two things at once. It moved a full fall outerwear group into the tall range, seven jackets and a blazer, every piece at full price. At the same time it stepped its promotional rates down for a second week running, so most of what we named seven days ago costs more today.
That combination tells you where Athleta is in its season. The fall assortment is arriving, and the summer pricing is being withdrawn to make room for it.

The headline held roughly steady for a second week. Underneath it the individual prices kept sliding upward, because the styles carrying the deepest promotional rates are the ones being moved back toward full price first.
Seven jackets arrived in tall
This is the largest single drop of tall outerwear we have seen from Athleta. Every piece below is new to the tall range this week and none of it carries a discount yet.

The anchor piece of the group, with the complete S to XL run in both colors.

The one to look at first. This is the only new piece cut on the numeric 0 to 16 grid rather than lettered sizes, which means the sleeve and body length are graded properly for a tall frame. A tall blazer with a real size run is hard to find at any price.

This one needs a note. Athleta has carried an In the Clouds Jacket before, and what arrived this week is the new season’s version in Truffle, Pearl with Savanna, Savanna and Navy. Last season’s colors are still in the tall range at a much lower price, which is the next section.

The Sahara and Bone colorways from the previous season are clearing at $50 while the new season’s colors list at $149. The catch is the size run, which is down to XL in both. If XL is your size, this is the best value in the store by a wide margin, and it is the clearest example we have seen of why the colorway matters more than the style name when you shop tall.
The promotional rates stepped down again
Everything we named last week is more expensive, which continues a pattern now four weeks old at this store.

Savanna went from a 30% cut to the full $109. This is Athleta’s best-known tall pant, and it is worth watching rather than buying at this price.
Skyline High Rise Barrel Leg Pant · $97 today, $83 last week, tall 0 to 16, Savanna
We called this the best full-length tall pant on sale at Athleta last week. The rate went from 40% off to 30% off, so it costs $14 more today. Jungle, Navy, Black and Bright White are at the same $97, each with the complete 0 to 16 run.

Venice High Rise Wide Leg Pant · $95 today, $83 last week, tall XS to XL, Navy
Skyline Zip Pant · $104 (was $149), 30% off, tall 0 to 16, three colors
Black, Pearl and Nocturnal all held at $104 with the complete size run, which makes this one of the few Athleta pants that has stayed still for two weeks.

Held at $69 from last week.
What is actually worth buying
Pinnacle High Rise Trouser · $90 (was $129), 30% off, tall 0 to 16, five colors
Savanna, Truffle, Bone, Black and Navy, every one at $90 with the complete 0 to 16 run, and every one held its price through a week when most of the store moved. A full-length tall trouser with five colors and a complete size run is the most useful thing on sale at Athleta right now.
Venice High Rise Wide Leg Pant · $79 (was $119), 35% off, tall XS to XL, Abalone
Abalone was at the full $119 last week and is the cheapest colorway of this pant by $11. The rest run from $90 to $103, so this is the one to pick.
Endless High Rise Barrel Pant · $79 (was $119), 35% off, tall 0 to 16, Ash
A full-length barrel leg with the complete numeric run, down from $83 last week while the rest of the Endless line went up.

A capri is a cropped pant, so buy this one for the length it is rather than as a full-length ponte. The Sport Ponte Flare above is the same fabric cut long.
PowerMove Smooth Rise Legging · $109, tall M and L only, Black
Only two sizes reached the tall range so far.
What to do about it
Athleta has now raised its tall prices four weeks in a row, and the pattern behind it is consistent enough to plan around. A flat 30% or 40% rate on an Athleta tall style is the temporary part, and it steps down rather than deepening as the season turns.
The new outerwear will follow the same path. None of those seven jackets is scarce today, and none of them is discounted, so there is no reason to buy the Coastline or the Form Knit group this week unless you want first pick of the colors. The Endless Blazer at tall 0 to 16 is the exception worth considering at full price, because a properly graded tall blazer tends to sell out before it ever gets marked down.
For right now, the Pinnacle trouser at $90 is the buy. Five colors, a complete 0 to 16 run, and a price that held while everything around it rose.
