J.Crew dropped prices across its tall range since our last check, and very few went up. 📉
Here is the part that matters: 69 of those cuts are dresses and 21 are skirts. That is 90 out of 108 landing in the same two racks. When a store cuts one category this hard in one week, it is clearing summer inventory to make room, not running a sitewide promo.
J.Crew’s tall sale share reached 75% of everything in stock, and its deepest tall discount got deeper as well. Everyone else moved sideways or backward this week, which we cover in the sale radar.

The big one: full tall size run, 55% off in a week

This is the clearest standout of the week. A $248 dress fell to $100 in seven days with the complete 2 through 20 tall run still in stock, in Smoked Walnut. Deep discount plus every size available almost never happens at the same time, because by the time a price gets this low the sizes are usually picked over.
Open-back is a cut where the tall pattern earns its money, since the back opening has to sit in the right place on a longer torso or the whole dress reads wrong.
The rest of this week’s real cuts
Seven styles took a cut of 40% or more off last week’s price. Five of them are dresses.

Same dress, two prints, both cut 55% in a week, both with a full XS to XL tall run. At $60 these are the best price-to-size-availability trade in the whole clearance. Cotton poplin holds its shape on a long frame better than a drapier fabric would, which is why J.Crew keeps making this one.

A $98 cut in a week. Worth saying out loud that “mini” on a tall pattern usually arrives closer to a short dress than a genuine mini, which most of us consider a feature.
Tall V-neck popover dress in linen · $64, was $142, $158 retail, tall L only
Black linen at 60% off retail, but one size left. Move or skip, there is no middle option here.
Tall Soleil pant in striped linen · $71, was full price at $118, tall XS to XL
The only pant that went on sale from full price this week, in two colorways: Smokey Seaglass in XS, M, L and XL, and Blue Red White in S, M and L. The Soleil is one of J.Crew’s better-reviewed tall pants and it rarely goes on sale, so 40% off is worth noticing.
The deepest tall discounts on the site right now
The cuts are steeper here and the sizes are thinner, so read the size line carefully.

We flagged this one in June at $59 with sizes 10 through 20. It is $6 cheaper now and three sizes thinner. That is exactly how a tall clearance goes: the price keeps falling and your size leaves before the discount finishes.

A waist 34 in tall at 70% off is a genuinely rare object. If that is your size, this is the single best value on the page.

65% off with a complete size run in white. The other combination worth acting on this week.
Pants and jeans with every size still in stock
The dress rack has the drama, but the pants are where the complete tall size runs are hiding.

Wide-leg and flare in a stretch fabric, both under $73, both with essentially the whole numeric run. If you buy tall pants once a season, this is the week.
The white denim thing
J.Crew moved every tall white denim style to the same $73 this week, down from $80 to $103 depending on the cut:
- Tall curvy slim-wide jean · waist 28, 30, 31, 32
- Tall nipped straight jean in stretch · waist 26, 27, 30, 32
- Tall slim jean · waist 31, 32
All $73, all down from $148 retail. White denim is a July purchase that gets used in September, so the timing is deliberate. Pick the cut, not the price, because the price is identical.
About the cropped pants
Two of the deepest discounts are cropped, and we want to be clear about what that means at tall height.
Tall cropped Stratus pant in block print at $39, down from $148, is 75% off with the most complete size run in this entire clearance: 2 through 16 in numeric and XS through XXL in letter sizing. It is also, per the name, cropped.
Tall Charley kickout cropped pant in faux leather at $45, down from $168, is almost 75% off in tall 29 and 32.
A pant designed to crop at the ankle in regular sizing lands higher than that on a tall frame, and the tall version closes part of the gap but usually not all of it. Buy either one because you want a cropped pant, which is a perfectly good thing to want at 75% off. Just do not buy one expecting a full-length trouser, because the word in the product name is doing its job.
The TLDR summary
J.Crew is the only one of the four stores getting cheaper this week, and the dress rack is where it is happening. 🛍️
If you want the best odds of your size being there: the cocoa block print open-back dress at $100 has the full 2 to 20 run, the two puff-sleeve popover dresses at $60 have full XS to XL, and the patch-pocket pullover dress at $54 does too.
If you want the deepest cut and you are willing to gamble on sizing, the gingham open-back dress at $53 is 75% off in tall 14, 18 and 20.
