Two weeks ago we reported that J.Crew was the only one of the four stores still cutting, with prices dropping across its tall range in a single week. This week that pace slowed, with far fewer styles moving onto the sale rack and the tall sale share easing to 70%. At the same time, J.Crew added 42 new tall styles, and almost all of them are fall wool. The two stories are related: floor space that was going to clearance is now going to the new season. Check the J.Crew tall fit guide before you buy, since J.Crew tall runs long.
The fall wool has landed
Tall Margeaux blazer in four-season stretch · $268, tall 16 only, 24 reviews at 4.67

J.Crew’s structured blazer, back with an established review history, but only one tall size in stock so far.
Tall mini dress in wool blend · $248, tall 2 to 20, ink or navy pinstripe
A full 2 to 20 tall size run on a brand-new style is unusual this early in a launch. Most of this week’s wool pieces are not this complete yet.
Tall arched trouser in wool blend · $178, tall 0 to 16, grey
Tall Cosmo pant in wool blend · $198, tall XS to XL, graphite grey
A lot of the rest of the wool launch is thinner: the essential trouser in wool blend landed in four colors, but each color has only two to four sizes in stock so far (grape rouge: 0, 4, 8, 10; ink: 0, 12). Treat this batch as a preview of what is coming, not a finished collection. If you see your size, that is the moment to buy it, because the fuller runs may not arrive for weeks.
New denim, full size runs
Unlike the wool, J.Crew’s new fall denim launched complete. The Tall slim-wide jean, matchstick jean, denim trouser jean, and Zoe barrel jean all arrived at $158 with the full tall waist 25 to 32 run in stock across several washes. If you want new J.Crew denim in your size, this week’s launch is the safer bet over the wool.
The clearance is easing, not ending
The clue is in the restocks. The Tall nipped straight jean in stretch in White Denim was $79 last week with one size in stock. This week it restocked a second size and repriced to $130, still technically on sale against its $148 list, just far less aggressively. That is the pattern behind the softer numbers: J.Crew is restocking sold-through sizes at shallower markdowns rather than chasing the clearance lower.
There are still real cuts if you look for them. The Tall pintuck mini dress in cotton poplin in white dropped 40% to $120, and the Tall column skirt in Gramercy linen blend fell 65% to $60 in Open Air. And the patch-pocket pullover dress we’ve mentioned before is still floating around at 70 to 80% off depending on color, now down to single sizes in most of them.
The TLDR summary
If you want fall J.Crew, buy the denim first, it launched with the size runs to back it up. The wool is genuinely appealing (the wool-blend mini dress at $248 is the standout, full run included) but most of it is a trickle right now, so buy on sight rather than waiting for more colors. And if you were counting on J.Crew’s clearance getting deeper every week, that streak paused this week. It didn’t reverse, sizes are just coming back at gentler prices instead of steeper ones.
