On August 12 we wrote that J.Crew’s clearance pace was slowing, as the typical tall discount narrowed. That pause lasted exactly one cycle. This week the typical discount jumped to 30% off, a batch of tall styles got deeper cuts, and very few went back up.
The sale share held steady, so the same items are getting marked down again rather than new ones joining the sale. J.Crew’s tall selection also got smaller this week, so things are selling through. Check the J.Crew tall fit guide before buying, since J.Crew tall runs long.
Summer dresses are being cleared out
Tall dresses at J.Crew: most of the category is on sale, at a typical discount of almost 40%. That is the category doing the work.

It was $175 ten days ago. It is $75 now, with eight sizes still available, which makes it the biggest single drop in this week’s J.Crew data and one of the few deep cuts with a real size run left.

The deepest discount at J.Crew this week, and down to single sizes per color. If one of those two is yours, it will not be there next week.
Other dresses worth knowing about: the Tall Ondine mini dress in double cotton poplin at $50 (was $188), almost 75% off, in tall M to XL; the Tall open-back dress in cocoa block print at $80 (was $248), almost 70% off, tall 8 to 20; and the Tall empire-waist mini dress in Gramercy linen blend at $70 (was $198), 65% off, in tall 2 to 20.
The patch-pocket pullover dress we have flagged for three straight weeks at 70 to 80% off is gone, sold through entirely. We called it “the closest thing to a countdown timer in this week’s data” on August 12, and the timer ran out. A number of other tall styles left J.Crew’s site this week the same way.
Two full-run bargains outside the dress rack
Most of J.Crew’s deep cuts are down to one or two sizes. These two still have a full run.

Tall Stratus pant in textured satin · from $50 (was $148), up to 65% off, 559 reviews at 4.44
The Stratus restocked this week in seven colors at seven different prices. Black is the one to take: $50, 65% off, tall S to XXL. Ivory is $70 with the full XS to XXL run. The rest are single sizes at shallower cuts, so read the color before you read the price.
The corduroy landed
Last week’s wool trickle has been joined by real fall fabric.

Smoked Walnut arrived with the complete tall 25 to 32 waist run. Pale Bone and Cooper Grey are down to two sizes each already, which is the usual J.Crew tall launch pattern: one color complete, the rest a lottery.

Ten days ago this blazer was in tall size 16 only. Navy now has the full 2 to 16 run. If you looked at the Margeaux last week and gave up, look again.
Tall Soho car coat in cotton-blend · $298, tall XS to XXL, River Rock
A full six-size run on a new $298 coat is a genuine commitment to the tall customer, and it is the first proper outerwear J.Crew has put into tall this season.

Buy the Kate straight-leg pant. A 55% cut on a well-reviewed pant with every tall size from 0 to 16 available is the rarest combination in this dataset, and it went from full price to that in ten days, so it did not get there by sitting around. 🎯
For everything else at J.Crew, treat this week’s deep dress markdowns as a clear-out rather than an opportunity to browse. Sizes are thin, a batch of styles vanished since our last check, and the discounts are getting deeper precisely because the fall floor set needs the space.
