We have been following Old Navy’s tall sale share every week since June, and it has never done this. Nearly every tall style in the store is on sale this morning, which is effectively the whole tall selection. 🎉
The three exceptions are all Old Navy x Disney Minnie Mouse pieces, which is the kind of detail that tells you this is a sitewide event rather than a clearance push: licensed product is usually the last thing to get discounted, and here it is the only thing that wasn’t.

It is one promotion, not a thousand markdowns
The shape of the discount matters more than the headline. 1,209 of the 1,453 sale items, almost 85% of them, are at exactly 40% off. Every single category we track comes back with a 40% median:

That uniformity is the giveaway. A single sitewide percentage landed on top of everything at once. Prices dropped right across the tall section since August 12, and everything we checked stayed on sale, which is the first week all summer that has happened.
Last week’s denim story just reversed itself
On August 12 we reported that Old Navy had pushed more than 20 jeans styles back to full price while discounting activewear. Ten days later, every one of them is back on sale, and deeper than before.

We called these the most interesting new arrival of the month when they launched at $40, then watched them reprice to $50. They are $30 now, which is $10 below the launch price, with the full tall 2 to 18 run in stock.

Also back from $50, in eleven colorways, with the whole size run intact. If you held off on Old Navy denim ten days ago because we told you to, that call worked out.
The lesson we drew then still stands, just pointed the other way: “on sale” is not a permanent state at Old Navy, and neither is full price. This store reprices its tall catalog faster than any other we track.
47 new fall styles, discounted on day one
Old Navy also dropped its biggest new-arrival batch of the season, a large run of tall styles across many colorways, nearly all with zero reviews, so these are genuinely new rather than existing styles newly cut in tall. Because the sitewide promo covers them too, they arrived already marked down, which almost never happens.
Loose Sherpa Quarter-Zip Pullover · $30 (was $50), tall S to XXL, four colors
Mocha, Hearthwood, Nebula and Black Zebra, full tall size run in every color. A brand new sherpa layer at 40% off in August is the sort of thing that usually shows up in November.
High-Waisted Patch Pocket Flare Pants · $30 (was $50), tall 2 to 18, three colors
Earthen, Black Jack, Gothic Blue. Full 2 to 18 run in all three, which is a more complete launch than Old Navy usually manages in tall.
Mid-Rise Straight Leg Jeans · $27 (was $45), tall 2 to 18, four washes
Blue Black, Indigo Archive, Grey Matter and Washed Black, complete size runs across the board.
Snug Crew-Neck Long Sleeve T-Shirt · $12 (was $20), tall XS to XXL, 14 colors
Fourteen colorways of a basic long-sleeve tee at $12, all with full size runs. If you are stocking up on layering pieces, this is the efficient way to do it.
SoSoft V-Neck Sweater · $24 (was $40), tall XS to XXL, 10 colors
Ten colors, full runs, and the SoSoft line is Old Navy’s most reliable sweater fabric for the price.
The long-runners are still here

Fourth consecutive week at $7 in the same two sizes. At this point it is less a deal and more a fixture. Still the deepest discount in the entire tall dataset across all four stores.
The TLDR summary
This is the week to buy Old Navy tall. Not because any single item hit a record low, but because the odds are simply better: almost everything is 40% off, the new fall arrivals are included, and the denim that got more expensive ten days ago is now cheaper than it has ever been.
Sitewide promotions like this run on a calendar, not on inventory, so the sensible read is that it ends on a date rather than when sizes sell through. If your size is in stock in something you want, this week is the week. 🛍️
