Ten days ago we reported that Old Navy had put 100% of its tall catalog on sale, the highest reading we had recorded all summer. That event is over. About 75% of Old Navy’s tall styles are on sale this morning. Our Old Navy tall fit guide has the sizing details if you are shopping the store for the first time.
The typical discount among items still on sale held at 40%, the same as ten days ago. What changed is which items qualify, and the split by category tells a clearer story than the headline number does.
The day-one discounts are gone
Last week we highlighted four brand new fall styles that had launched already marked down, calling it unusual because new arrivals almost never ship with a discount attached. All four are back to full price this week, unsold and still in stock, just $10 to $20 more expensive.
| Style | Was (Aug 22) | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Loose Sherpa Quarter-Zip Pullover | $30 | $50 |
| High-Waisted Patch Pocket Flare Pants | $30 | $50 |
| Mid-Rise Straight Leg Jeans | $27 | $45 |
| Snug Crew-Neck Long Sleeve T-Shirt | $12 | $20 |
| SoSoft V-Neck Sweater | $24 | $40 |
Every size that was in stock last week is still in stock now. Nothing sold through. The discount simply ended on schedule, which confirms what we suspected last week: the sitewide 40% was tied to a calendar, not to inventory, and it applied to everything Old Navy had listed at the time, including stock that had been live for less than a week.
Sweaters lost the sale, dresses got a deeper one
The unwind did not land evenly. Some categories rolled almost all the way back to full price. Others kept their discount and a couple went deeper than before.
| Category | Tall styles | On sale now | On sale Aug 22 | Typical discount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sweaters & Cardigans | 81 | 20% | 100% | 20% |
| Pants | 69 | 60% | 100% | 30% |
| Activewear | 200 | 65% | 100% | 30% |
| Jeans | 112 | 70% | 100% | 40% |
| Sweatshirts | 37 | 75% | 100% | 40% |
| T-Shirts & Tanks | 258 | 75% | 100% | 40% |
| Blouses | 61 | 85% | 100% | 20% |
| Dresses & Jumpsuits | 93 | 100% | 100% | 50% |
| Pajamas | 27 | 100% | 95% | 50% |
Sweaters & Cardigans took the hardest hit, dropping from full sale coverage to 20%, and the discount on what remains fell from 40% to 20%. That lines up with the reverted items above: sweaters and fleece layers read as the fall reset category, the one Old Navy wanted back at regular price first.
Dresses & Jumpsuits and Pajamas moved the other way. Both stayed at 100% sale coverage and both got deeper, from 40% off to 50% off. Those categories are not riding the same calendar promotion as the rest of the store. They look like their own separate clearance, running on its own timeline.
The $7 club has a second member
Tie-Front Sherpa Vest · Cozy Cashmere, $7 (was $50), 85% off, tall L to XXL, 62 reviews at 4.7

We have tracked the SoSoft Mock-Neck Fair Isle Sweater at $7 for a month now, and it is still there, unchanged. This vest joins it at the exact same price point, 85% off its $50 original. Two entirely different garments landing on the identical number is a coincidence of Old Navy’s pricing algorithm rather than a special sale, but it is a useful signal: $7 appears to be close to the floor this store will go on tall clearance.
What arrived this week
The new-arrival batch was much smaller than last week’s: a modest run of tall styles, mostly activewear basics and everyday tees rather than a fashion drop. High-Waisted PowerSoft Full-Length Pocket Leggings launched at $32 (was $40) with a full S to XXL run, and a run of EveryWear graphic tees came in at $10 each in multiple prints.
One item worth flagging: an Old Navy x Disney Minnie Mouse Vintage Crew-Neck T-Shirt arrived at $9 (was $25, 65% off). Last week we noted that Disney collaborations were the only items exempt from the sitewide discount. A newly arrived Mickey Mouse cardigan is still full price at $50, so that mostly holds, but this Minnie tee is proof it is not an absolute rule.
The TLDR summary
If you wanted one of last week’s new fall arrivals at 40% off, that window closed. Sweaters and fleece are back to regular price across the board, so hold off there unless you need the item now. Dresses, jumpsuits and pajamas are the opposite case: those got cheaper, not more expensive, and are worth a look if you have not already checked. The $7 items remain the deepest, most reliable discounts in the entire dataset, at either store. 🧥
